Benga – Smack Your Bitch Up

I haven’t written a post since late November last year so this better be good hehe. I’ve really been unimpressed with the latest in what’s being produced in what they’re calling dubstep these days. Squeeks, bleeps and wobble were all great the first 500 times heard but serious originality and simplicity is lacking these days. When I first started listening to dubstep a few years back we had Skream, N-Type, Coki, Benga, Cluekid, MRK1, Loefah, The Bug, Vex’d, Darqwan, Mala, etc.. all doing orginal sounds. So it’s great to hear a well-produced tune by none other than the man Benga. Is it a remix of Prodigy’s “Smack My Bitch Up”? Seems to have some of the samples…

Check out the fierce track and official video below:

Here’s a link to a free download of Benga’s “Smack Your Bitch Up”.

I remember when I first saw Benga here in Adelaide at the Rhino Room. The place was packed and there was an amazing vibe, a crazy energy about the room. Dubstep was new back then and Benga dropped beats like no other that night. I was hooked and wanted more so wasn’t too long later I bought a copy of “Diary of an Afro Warrior”. When I heard 26 Basslines my jaw literally dropped and I had no choice but to give it a long rinse. I also made a ringtone out of it.. I guess that’s my way of sharing it to the world being no DJ hehe. Download the 26 Basslines iPhone Ringtone here.

Solid work on this one Benga :)

I saw Benga again with Skream in Sydney a couple of years ago at the Art Factory. That was a pretty insane show since N-Type was playing a couple of doors down. I had tickets to both (N-Type smashed it at The Gaff)… N-Type ended up joining Skream & Benga after his set finished and decided to MC. And I saw them again another time to a packed crowd at the Gaelic in Sydney last year. If you’re thinking about checking Benga out and happen to read this post, don’t hesitate, he won’t let you down (just don’t give him too much beer). Be prepared to dance your ass off!
