The High Society at Miss Libertine, Melbourne
I was in Melbourne this weekend and was lucky enough to see a gig that was fantastic right at the end of the trip. I read about this night: Ghetto Arts in a post on Facebook by Men Imitating Machines (more on these guys later) and was intrigued. So I went along to the gig and saw a lot of nice chilled acts for some good Sunday vibes & phat beats.
The stand-out was High Society (a band recently Unearthed by Triple J featuring 7 members (including 3 MCs/Vocalists) and full of stage presence. The tracks were great, the energy was paramount & the toungue-in-cheek banter in-between tracks was also entertaining. The standout from the group was Hyina Mufasa who melded soulful vocals with fast-paced rhymes. The horn section was pretty cool too.
A little hard to find there stuff online as they’re quite fresh.. check out The High Society’s Facebook page for some tracks & videos. Here’s ‘A Sketch City Movie’ that features one of their tracks as well as a showcase of other fine Melbourne Hip Hop talent.
I want to go back to Melbourne – so many nice people.. so full of art.. so much soul.. good times!
