Nuit Blanche is a short film by the production house Spy Films featuring some very cool slow motion 3D effects. Shot in the classic Film Noir style, this film uses striking orchestral music to capture the intensity of the moment between two strangers and sets mood for the scene well. You can’t help but feel that you’re trapped in a moment in time and it’s almost like you’re there.

Nuit Blanche explores a fleeting moment between two strangers, revealing their brief connection in a hyper real fantasy.

The realism of the situation is maintained even though it uses cutting edge effects and transitions that add so much impact to the scene, in a way defying the conventional Film Noir techniques. The slow motion splash of the puddle as he decides to walk toward her, the drop of her glass in slow motion, the broken glass effect and the car crashing into him really add to the overall piece. Check out the making of Nuit Blanche which demonstrates all the different layers involved in creating the final shots. Nice combinations of lighting, stills and green screens. It really gives you an appreciation of the amount of work and level of difficulty involved in making something like this (and also in full length feature films):

According to Wikipedia, Nuit Blanche means: “White Night, All-Nighter or Sleepless Night in French” – so I guess my interperetation of how it applies to this film is both a play on the Film Noir style and that the strangers experience a sleepless moment/encounter – where time stops and nothing else matters. Much like when you have an all-nighter and during that time you don’t care about anything else but the moment itself.
